SoNG 002 "Greenham on a Spree"

GREENHAM ON A SPREE
by Jill Booth

"Greenham on a Spree was inspired by the tabloid papers of the day who wrote all sorts of overexcited articles about how the camp was funded by the Russians, and of course that we were all filthy lesbians, (some of which was of course true) but also by the wider peace movement who went on about how brave we were and how much we were suffering in the cause of peace when in fact the truth was that it was a wonderful adventure and a great way of life."
~ Becky Griffiths

Down at Greenham on a spree, funded by the KGB,
Dirty women squatting in the mud.
Mostly vegetarian when we're not devouring men,
foreigners and other forms of scum.
Mr. Gorbachov supplies us with our vodka,
Mr. Castro makes sure we're kept in dope (wish he would),
All the women here are outside agitators
who don't know that Ronald Reagan brings us hope.

What a bunch of layabouts, don't know what it's all about,
How we need deterrence for the best.
Lighting fires, burning toast, bringing Communism close,
threatening the security of the West.
In the bushes a cache of guns is waiting.
There are copies of Karl Marx in plastic bags.
All the children live in misery with rats and deprivation,
but then, what can you expect from queers and hags?

Down at Greenham on a spree, funded by the KGB,
Laughing, singing, dancing in the rain.
Nowhere signs of sacrifice, making do or being nice,
but best of all we're not accepting pain.
We are trying to be done with pain and problems.
With hypocrisy, dishonesty and fear.
So don't go getting shirty, 'cos it' us who's getting dirty,
and because of us we'll all be here next year.

SoNG 001 "Neutron Ron"

NEUTRON RON
*If you know who wrote or helped write this, please let us know!

Sitting in a saddle down in Washington,
They call him Ron with the neutron bomb,
Brave and courageous with a big problem,
He'll solve it all with the neutron bomb.

Chorus:
Da dum ba dum, Oh, my heart stood still!
Da dum ba dum, Everybody else's will!
If we let him drop that bomb, the neutron bomb, Ron, the neutron bomb.

He sent his fleet down to El Salvador,
He calls it maneuvers, but we know it's war,
He thinks he's got the whole world in his hand,
But we won't stand another Vietnam.

Da dum ba dum! Oh! My heart stood still!
Da dum ba dum! Everybody else's will!
We won't let him drop that bomb 'cuz we don't want another Vietnam.

Sitting near the depot down in Romulus,
It's the Women's Encampment for Peace and Justice,
Weaving our webs and spreading the news,
About the tools of destruction - the Pershing and Cruise.

Da dum ba dum! Stop the deployment!
Da dum ba dum! We'll find other employment
You don't have to lose, get rid of the Pershing! Get rid of the Cruise!

Wining and dining with the rich each night,
It's not their kids who go out to fight,
Billions of dollars being made on war,
But the ones who die are the young and the poor.

Da dum ba dum! I can hear the mothers' sobs!
Da dum ba dum! But the Army's got the only jobs!
We can't let him drop that bomb, the neutron bomb, Ron, the neutron bomb.
